Election fever is on. This early
those running for national offices catching the heat have already their
materials seen all over – along the highways, church fences and premises,
residential houses and even trees -. If only these trees could shout out loud the way they’re crucified its trunk, twigs
and leaves mercilessly carrying the weight of posters, flyers what have you,
they would have probably prayed for fire and brimstones to fall on the culprit. Why not after all
such eyesores are blatant violation of COMELEC’s earlier official pronouncement that as much as
possible we should spare those innocent trees from dragging them into as
accomplices of our political ambition. Poems
are made by fools like me but only God can
only make a tree! Don’t you recall that classic poem about trees. What a
disservice are we giving to them easily
destroying old our tree to adventurists like politicians. Think of the pain you suffer when part of
your body is pierced and pricked? It’s how the way trees God created and
nurtured must be similarly complaining. Don’t they? But could they? No way unless they would soon die and destroyed as
their protest for leaving them exploited in the altar of politics. In that
case, they’re only good as firewood. But that’s another story deserving another
space.
Good grief to concerned agencies for
practicing what they preach. This column’s therefore wish to congratulate and
pay tribute for CDO COMELEC for having
done their job well in removing illegal posters mounted along the airport road and trees by abusive trapo politicians.
It’s political will at work here sending strong message to concerned candidates
and their handlers that order should be observed when mounting election
materials or face the severe punishment hands of the law could offer. Hope so.
Here’s another
challenge though to COMELEC and
concerned local officials if they’re worth their salt and consistent on what
they officially pronounced and stand for.
Or would they only easily change
their color depending on who are concerned and where these such eyesores are
located. Let’s really see if they really mean business here. Incidentally, I
went to Iligan all the way to MSU and back to Cagayan de Oro riding on my KMX-125. What sight to behold! Rainbows
of election materials are all you would see in as many places as far as your eyes can see. I wonder as it is election
time, streamer capital of the Philippines seems to be extended from Marawi it
seems to me is virtually extended all the way down to Cagayan de Oro City.. The road was simply converted to the sea of
flyers, streamers, tarpaulin, posters introducing candidates to all passengers
passing by. What now concerned City COMELEC officials. Can we pull our
punches here or never mind for fear of reprisals and repercussions from the
Powers-that-be.
Not all though
turn off my travel that day. There’s lot of entertainment in the road specially
when you’re back in the city streets and drawn to humor and sad reality of
entertainment in the road. Just open your eyes and use your imagination. There are definitely
more than what meets the eye in the
road. Ergo, give way to real and
surefire entertainment promising an exciting satisfaction guaranteed ad
infinitum. That if you could hold on to your
sanity. If not, then be ready to be
crazy at least as fleeting contentment on humor and beauty the road
brings. Just go down to the road with
your bike, whatever with the an observant eyes with listening ear finding
interest work of arts by people.
