Renewal of Loyalty to the Country Today

My loyalty to the country begins where the loyalty to the party ends.  That’s the legacy left to us by Pres. Manuel Luis Quezon and it is hoped that the didactic wisdom he imparted many decades ago will find its way into our hearts today as we relish the victory of democracy in the just concluded national and local election.
Actually, I’m writing this piece early this evening of Sunday May 9, 2010 on the eve of election tomorrow. Like all tax paying Filipinos, I am  also excited on the results of election at least within 48 hours as drumbeated and assured repeatedly by James Jimenez of COMELEC That means two days in time  this article will probably see print on Tuesday, being my regular schedule of my column.  So I’m just skipping any conjectures of the wannabes who might make it as winning candidates. Villar of course is my man because he’s cool and unassuming that on top of his sterling track records and leadership. Gibo is my next choice for all the candidates for he has maintained decency and  professionalism from day one of political campaign  just doing his own thing not washing and throwing dirty linen of his counterparts in public. I don’t definitely like Noynoy Aquino who is so impatient of making it to Malacanang and so far the most consistent in attacking Manny Villar in all  his TV ad. Which leads to disturbing question that has its correlation to that alledged psychological imbalance. No thanks to conspiracy among Maria Ressa of ABS-CBN, Fr. Calunag and Psychology Department of Ateneo de Manila covering up such issue leaving it  hanging it there like Damocles blade over many Filipinos. If the quality of media is the gauge what a society is, Maria Ressa emphasized, why all leaving this issue hanging  in the air, left in the cold in the night buried  for good, when it could serve better the country exploring it.
For all we know Noynoy  has more skeletons in his closet and they are serious. Think of the gruesome massacre of farmers in Hacienda Luisita on Nov. of 2004, arrogant stance of not acknowledging GMA’s choice of Supreme Court Head  earning an ire from Sen. Miriam Santiago when such option is even practiced by United States; and  his another  irresponsible call for possible  another People Power when needed after this election if he’s not get elected.
Fast forward today. That maybe history now as Noynoy get elected as President. Well and good as all is well that ends well.  It’s now up to him to show his true worth and proved those critics like this writer wrong. And the rest who may experience similar fate. Just get the better of the wounds of defeat. It will come to pass once you’ll be emotionally drained. Don’t fret.  For all you know, the pasture is probably greener now given the new set of leadership. That if you voted yesterday’s election. Or today’s result might have  hurt you as your candidates did not make it or didn’t even register any fighting chance as their fate or probability of making it was already sealed in many survey results earlier shown. You are now maybe a convert to survey as exact science. That alone could be a consolation from the exercise. If not never mind, that’s all what we’ve got  in waging our political choice in  election. As they say it: winning some and losing some.  The most important thing and the bottom line is we participated and learn from it.

In fact, I would be surprised if there is digression from surveys conducted as all surveys example like those of Gallop of US and our very own  SWS, Pulse Asia or even the mock polls we conducted shows great success as indicated in its  degree of accuracy.  Whatever it is, it is behooved now upon those who are clearly given the majority of the peoples’ mandate to prepare for the greater and far better challenging roles they have now to serve.
For those who didn’t make it notwithstanding the huge money you spent in your campaign ad and political sorties, now is the best time to show your sportsmanship  and being gentlemen in  accepting  reality.
For those who boycotted and did not cast their votes. Never mind. You don’t have any business to gripe over different results today But otherwise, you better make up your mind next time and go out and vote.
And that is unprecedented you could proudly share to your children and later great grandchildren how easy and educational it was participating in that exercise.  It is definitely historical and better alternative than the manual election we have all over those years.
